Buttons was the sweetest,
calmest, quietest Maltese we've ever had the good fortune to have as
part of our lives. She would look at you with those big round eyes and wag
her tail, but never bark.
She and our Patches gave us six beautiful puppies, one of which was our precious
Star. We had
planned to breed her to Patches one last time, and then she would be spayed and
retired to live
a life of luxury. This was not to be. On Saturday night, April 6,
she began to abort the litter of two.
Emergency surgery was performed, performing the spaying we had planned for after
the birth of
the pups, but on Sunday morning she took a turn for the worst. By 11:00
AM, we had lost our sweet
Buttons and the puppies too. This loss was our first for any of our adult
Maltese, and heartbreaking.
We had just returned home from the funeral of my first cousin, more like a
sister, and best friend
when this all occurred. So to say it was a day of sadness would be an
understatement.

On November 17, 2004, we lost our oldest Maltese, Misha. Misha was the first Maltese puppy born to us. He was very special. Acute Congestive Heart failure was the cause of his death. He was 11 years old. He is missed.

Now to add to our sadness this year, our special little angel, Pierce, died on Christmas Eve. He was born on September 29, 2003. He died December 24, 2004. To say that one Maltese is more special than another sounds really silly, but Pierce was very special. He had just started his show career and was well on his way to being a Champion. The awful bacterial infection that has plagued the dog show and breeder world, was the culprit in his death. If you don't know about this infection, please click here and read about it. Print it out and take it to your vet...there are still some that are not aware of this. I was one of those people. Please, please do not let this happen to you.
He was indeed my hope for the future.
